‘Gearing Up’

Youth Cycle Maintenance Programme

We’re excited to offer our Youth Training Programme, a fully funded opportunity designed to help young people aged 14-24 gain confidence, learn new skills, and have fun while making a difference.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Learn bike maintenance skills: Fix your own bike, help your friends and family, and stay safe on the road or trails.
  • Build confidence: Hands-on experience with expert support from our friendly mentors.
  • Understand environmental issues: See how cycling contributes to a greener planet and how you can play a part in that.
  • Get work-related experience: Learn what it’s like to work in the cycling industry—and maybe discover your future career!
  • Make connections: Join a supportive community that shares your interests.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The programme is a 4-week mentoring scheme where you’ll work one-on-one with a Bike Mechanic and Volunteer Coordinator. You’ll:

  • Track your progress in a personal workbook (yours to keep at the end).
  • Earn a certificate when you complete the programme.
  • Explore other aspects of running a small business, if that’s something you’re curious about.
  • Explore the environmental aspects of the cycle industry.
  • Spend up to 1.5 hours a week at the workshop, gaining practical experience with different elements of cycle maintenance.

IS THERE A COST?

The programme is fully funded by The National Lottery, so there is NO cost to you. All that we ask is for your commitment to the 4-week schedule, and a little bit of feedback to help us continue to run the programme.

WHERE AND WHEN?

The programme is run at our workshop in the centre of Llangollen, Tuesday to Thursday. Times are dependent on circumstance.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER COMPLETION?

When you finish, you’ll have the chance to join our volunteer group, where you can keep building your skills, contribute to your community, and stay involved in the cycling world.

If you are keen to work within the cycling industry, we can offer support and advice to help you move forward with your chosen career.

For those who are still in education we offer a volunteer hour from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, and opportunities in school holidays.

HOW TO JOIN?

Places are limited, so if you’re interested or have questions, email us at: volunteer@drosibikes.org with the subject line: Youth Programme.
