Local Cycle Routes

Whether you’re hiring a bike / e-bike from us or looking to get out on your own, there are plenty of local cycle route options for the whole family to enjoy. Below are a number of recommended routes from the Drosi Bikes team (full descriptions are included in the PDF links).

Llangollen to aqueduct return

Grade: Easy
Distance: 9.6miles / 15.4km (round trip)
Ascent: short, steep climb to canal, thereafter level
Cycling time: approx. 1 1/2 hours
Highlights: mostly traffic free, no hills, World Heritage Site, Llangollen canal and River Dee.
Facilities en-route: Sun Inn at Trevor (passed in both directions), tea rooms, toilets, visitor centre/café and Telford Inn all close to the north end of aqueduct.

Dinas Bran
Circuit

Grade: Moderate
Distance: 7miles / 11km
Ascent: 790ft / 240m
Cycling time: approx. 1 hour
Highlights: Llangollen canal and River Dee, Dinas Bran Castle, views of the Dee valley and the surrounding hills.
Facilities en-route: the Sun Inn at Trevor (reached after 2 miles) and the café by the canal, near the end.


Cycle the Dee Valley East Circuit

Grade: Moderate
Distance: 11miles / 17.5km
Ascent: 1020ft / 310m
Cycling time: approx. 1 3/4 hours
Highlights: Llangollen canal and River Dee, World Heritage Site, Welsh sheep farming, views over Dee valley, Llangollen and beyond.
Facilities en-route: Sun Inn at Trevor; tea rooms, toilets, visitor centre / cafe and Telford Inn all close to the North end of the aqueduct; Aqueduct Inn at Froncysyllte.

Cycle the Dee Valley West Circuit

Grade: Challenging
Distance: 17miles / 27.4km
Ascent: 1750ft / 535m
Cycling time: approx. 2-2 1/2 hours
Highlights: Scenery / views, Welsh hill farming, forestry and heather moorland, picturesque Dee valley, Llangollen canal.
Facilities en-route: Berwyn Arms in Glyndyfrdwy and Chain Bridge Hotel, on approach to Llangollen.



Cycle the Dee Valley West & Horseshoe Pass

Grade: Challenging
Distance: 23miles / 37km
Ascent: 2210ft / 670m
Cycling time: approx. 3 hours
Highlights: Llangollen canal, the picturesque Dee valley, the wilder Bryneglwys valley, the Horseshoe Pass, the Eglwyseg limestone escarpment and views of Dinas Bran castle.
Facilities en-route: the Grouse Inn at Carog and the Ponderosa café on the summit of the Horseshoe Pass
